Title (German)

Videoüberwachungsanlagen für Sicherungsanwendungen - Teil 2-2: Videoübertragungsprotokolle - IP-Interoperabilität auf Basis von HTTP- und REST-Diensten (IEC 62676-2-2:2013); Deutsche Fassung EN 62676-2-2:2014

Overview

The international electrotechnical standardization organization for alarm and electronic security systems together with many governmental organizations, test houses, industrial associations and equipment manufacturers have defined a common framework for video surveillance transmission in order to achieve interoperability between products. This standard "interoperability implementation based on HTTP and REST services" is based on the requirements for IP video transmission protocols covered in IEC 62676-2-1, which defines protocol requirements to be fulfilled by any high-level IP video device certificate. Video transmission devices are often equipped with web servers that allow internet access. The internet pages concerned allow to configure, for example, the equipment, through an internet browser. In case of video surveillance applications, this internet browser and the underlying HTTP protocol can be used easily and simple for configuration and control of the equipment. Therefore, it appears useful that all resources of the VDT apply a standard HTTP request which is processed by the web server of the equipment. For security and network management applications it shall be possible to modify configurations and to control the behaviour of IP video equipment, such as cameras, coders, decoders, recorders, etcetera. This ability can be implemented by sending a standard HTTP(S) request to the equipment. The principle on which this type of IP Interoperability is based to specify and determine HTTP(S) application program interfaces (APIs) for VT equipment and their functions, in particular the setting and recall of various configurations and the control of the equipment behaviour. HTTP requests are placed via the web server of the equipment. The HTTP response may contain XML content (for GET actions), XML response information (for SET actions), or various text/binary content (for retrieval of configuration data, etcetera). REST is an approach to creating services that expose all information as resources in a uniform way. VT equipment shall be able to process overlapping and simultaneous HTTP requests as well as to maintain permanent connections in order to conduct multiple HTTP transactions. The XML content shall be specified in the implementation documents. REST is an approach to creating services that expose all information as resources in a uniform way. The ease of using REST is its uniform interface for operations. Since everything is represented as a resource, create, retrieve, update, and delete (CRUD) operations use the same URI.
