Protection against lightning - Part 2: Risk management; Supplement 3: Additional information for the application of DIN EN IEC 62305-2 (VDE 0185-305-2)
Abstract
DIN EN IEC 62305-2 (VDE 0185-305-2), annex B, discribes that values other than those listed there may be selected, when they are justified. In DIN EN IEC 62305-2 (VDE 0185-305-2), appendix C, states that deviating values may be selected by each national committee or after a detailed investigation. This supplement modifies the tables in DIN EN IEC 62305-2 (VDE 0185-305-2), annex B and annex C in order to better reflect the structural, technical and administrative conditions and special features in Germany. Furthermore, the experience available in Germany and the assessments usually made with regard to the probability of damage and losses are also taken into account appropriately. It should be noted that a risk analysis in accordance with DIN EN IEC 62305-2 (VDE 0185-305-2) is generally not necessary for lightning protection systems required by building regulations. If lightning protection is required due to legal or official regulations, but no specific protection class is defined, then a lightning protection system (at least) of protection class III is recommended.
