Test procedure for determining the energy efficiency of AI applications, considering software and hardware

Abstract

This Document defines technical requirements, definitions and specifications for the evaluation of AI solutions, i.e. algorithms in conjunction with special hardware, in terms of their energy and resource consumption. It defines standardised interfaces, measurement protocols and evaluation procedures. Thus, it enables the standardised classification of AI solutions in terms of their performance and resource consumption. This document is aimed at companies and researchers who regularly work with complex AI models, as well as AI users from different sectors who want to evaluate and compare the resource consumption of different solutions. It can be applied in various industries in which AI is used. This document does not offer specific solutions for particular AI applications. Similarly, it is not intended for applications that do not use AI. Instead, it aims to develop standardised measurement protocols that can be used with various different types of hardware and software for AI applications, and that can be compared with each other.
