Test methods for LiDAR Performance in Adverse Conditions

Abstract

This DIN SAE SPEC in accordance with the PAS procedure has been drawn up by a DIN SPEC (PAS)-consortium set up on a temporary basis. This DIN SAE SPEC has been developed and approved by the authors named in the foreword of the DIN SPEC. This document consists of test methods and definitions for evaluation of performance of automotive LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) independent of the design or technological approach of the sensor. Though the primary use-cases considered in this document are mainly applicable to forward-facing long-range sensors, it is still possible to apply some of the test methods to short range sensors. This document is applicable to car manufacturers and sensor suppliers to allow a defined assessment of the sensor performance on a point cloud level, e.g., the accuracy, precision, and robustness of measurements. This document helps correlate specifications and testing. This document does not seek to establish functional safety requirements. This document is intended for R&D personnel, sensor hardware and software developers, test track operators, testing organizations and manufacturers of automated vehicles and ADAS/AD functions.
