Dentistry - Terms related to membranes and barriers

Abstract

This document defines terms for membranes and barriers for use in dentistry. The use of membranes is already standard practice today, particularly in the field of implant and periodontal surgery. Basically, membranes are always used in dental surgery and oral surgery when there is a bony defect or bone loss and new bone needs to be rebuilt or the body's own bone regeneration needs to be supported. Membranes function as an efficient barrier against bacterial and cellular penetration. DIN 19414 is developed by the NA 014-00-21-01 AK "Terminology of dental implant systems" in the Dentistry Standards Committee (NADENT).
