Title (German)

Zahnheilkunde - Bezeichnungssystem für Zähne und Mundhöhlenbereiche (ISO 3950:2016); Deutsche Fassung EN ISO 3950:2016

Overview

This standard has been prepared by ISO/TC 106/SC 3/WG 1 "Dental terminology" (secretariat: AFNOR, France) together with CEN/TC 55 "Dentistry" (secretariat: DIN). The responsible committee at DIN-NADENT is Working Committee NA 014-00-03 AA "Terminologie" ("Terminology"). The standard provides a system for designating teeth or areas of the oral cavity using two digits. Teeth in the same quadrant are designated by the second digit 1 to 8 (1 to 5 in the deciduous dentition). This designation starts from the sagittal medial plane in distal direction. The tooth designation is based on the anatomy of the tooth regardless of its position in the mouth.
