Knee pads for mining - Part 2: Plastic knee pads

Title (German)

Knieschützer für den Bergbau - Teil 2: Knieschützer aus Kunststoff

Overview

Despite all the progress made in mining and conveying technology in the mining industry, many manual tasks have remained in the often cramped working areas. Low thickness, unfavourable arrangement of machine parts or unexpected malfunction positions repeatedly lead to work in forced positions, mostly in a kneeling position. High exertion, uneven surfaces and long periods of time spent in these positions represent an immediate risk of occupational accidents. The accumulation of such activities carries the risk of chronic illnesses and wear and tear of the knee joint, which can lead to occupational disability. This standard applies to knee protectors made of plastic, which are used in mining, mainly underground but also above ground. It specifies dimensions, requirements, testing and marking. The standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 008-07-01 AA "Persönliche Sicherheits- und Schutzausrüstung" ("Personal safety and protection equipment") at DIN Standards Committee Mining (FABERG).
