AIDEAS

AI Driven Industrial Equipment Product Life Cycle Boosting Agility, Sustainability and Resilience

With about 3.2 million employees, Europe's mechanical engineering industry is fundamental for employment, growth, and prosperity. Industrial equipment and machinery is considered a key factor in industrial development. The EU has always held a strategic position in this field, and it thrives on technological leadership in this highly competitive environment. To maintain this position, it will be crucial to make new technologies, such as AI technologies, accessible to all European stakeholders to ensure resilient design, deployment, and reuse of industrial assets, improve global competitiveness and strengthen the EU's industrial strategic autonomy and resilience.

The aim of the AIDEAS project is to develop AI-technologies to support the entire lifecycle of industrial assets (design, manufacture, use and repair/reuse/recycling) as a strategic tool to increase the sustainability, agility, and resilience of European engineering companies.

AIDEAS will develop 4 integrated suites:

  1. Design: AI technologies, integrated with CAD/CAM/CAE systems, for optimising the design of industrial equipment, structural components, mechanisms, and control components.
  2. Manufacturing: AI technologies for the selection and procurement of components for industrial equipment, manufacturing process optimization, sequencing, quality control and customisation.
  3. Use: AI technologies with added value for the industrial equipment user, providing enhanced support for installation and initial calibration, production, quality assurance and predictive maintenance for working on optimal conditions.
  4. Repair-Reuse-Recycle: AI technologies for extending the useful life of machines through prescriptive maintenance (repair), facilitating a second life for machines through smart retrofitting (reuse), and identifying the most sustainable end-of-life (recycle).

The AIDEAS solutions will be tested and validated in four pilots of machinery manufacturers that provide industrial equipment to the metal, stone, plastics, and food sector.
