Waterproofing of elements in contact with soil - Part 1: Requirements and principles for design and execution
Abstract
This document is applicable to the planning, selection and execution of waterproofing of building components in contact with the ground using sheet and liquid applied waterproofing materials. This document is applicable for waterproofing: - against ground moisture; - against non-pressing water; - against water pressing from the outside; - against non-pressing water on earth-covered ceilings; - against splash water on wall bases; - against capillary water in and under walls in contact with the ground. This document can also be used for buried underground structures in open construction. This document is not applicable for: - the waterproofing of landfills, earthworks and tunnels constructed by mining means; - the waterproofing of facilities for handling substances hazardous to water in accordance with the Water Resources Act (WHG); - subsequent waterproofing in building maintenance or in the preservation of historical monuments, unless procedures regulated in this document can be used for this purpose; - water-impermeable building components, e.g. structures and components for water-impermeable buildings made of concrete (WU Guideline). - the specification of actions on components below ground level, e.g. protection against floating DIN 18533 1 is applicable in conjunction with the other documents in this series, which contain the specific provisions for the planning and execution of the individual types of waterproofing.
