Paints and varnishes - Methods for testing the resistance of coatings to ionizing radiation in nuclear plants
Abstract
This document specifies procedures for testing the resistance of organic and/or inorganic coatings to ionizing radiation. It applies to testing the resistance of coatings to long-term exposure to ionizing radiation in nuclear facilities. The scope of this standard extends to ionizing radiation with a low linear energy transfer capability (LET). This includes beta, electron, gamma, and X-rays. Extrapolating the results to other types of radiation, particularly alpha or neutron radiation, is not permitted. The following details must be agreed upon within the conditions specified in this document: - Type and energy of radiation, - Absorbed dose, - Absorbed dose rate to be applied, - Surrounding medium, - Temperature, - Irradiation method, - Methods by which the changes in properties are to be assessed.
