Title (German)

Umweltkennzeichnungen und -deklarationen - Umweltbezogene Anbietererklärungen (Umweltkennzeichnung Typ II) (ISO 14021:2016); Deutsche und Englische Fassung EN ISO 14021:2016

Overview

The proliferation of environmental claims has created a need for environmental labelling standards which require that consideration be given to all relevant aspects of the life cycle of the product when such claims are developed. DIN EN ISO 14021 specifies requirements for self-declared environmental claims, including statements, symbols and graphics, regarding products. It further specifies selected terms commonly used in environmental claims and gives qualifications for their use. This International Standard also specifies a general evaluation and verification methodology for self-declared environmental claims and specific evaluation and verification methods for the selected claims in this International Standard. DIN EN ISO 14021 does not in any way exclude, waive or modify any legally required environmental claims, statements or labels or any other applicable legal requirements. Environmental vendor statements may be made by manufacturers, importers, wholesalers, retailers or anyone who may benefit from such statements. Environmental claims for products are possible in the form of written or graphic statements or symbols on product and packaging labels or in product literature, technical bulletins, advertising, public relations, telemarketing, and digital or electronic media, such as the Internet. The national interests in preparation of the standard were represented by Working Committee NA 172-00-03 AA "Ökobilanzen und umweltbezogene Kennzeichnung" ("Life cycle assessment and environmental labelling") at DIN Standards Committee NA 172 Principles of Environmental Protection (NAGUS).
