DIN Standards Committee Quality Management, Statistics and Certification

Overview

One of the three possibilities used in the market to increase confidence in the conformity of objects is the suppliers' attestation of conformity undertaken by the first party which is covered by DIN EN ISO/IEC 17050-1. Furthermore, the attestation of conformity can be also undertaken by the second party (for instance, by users providing an attestation for the product the user is using) or a third-party. This first part of the standard specifies requirements for cases where an attestation is provided by those responsible for meeting the specified requirements, that a product (including service), process, management system, person or body is in conformity with specified requirements, which can include normative documents (such as standards, guides, technical specifications, laws and regulations). DIN EN ISO/IEC 17050-1 does not contain any particular object for the declaration of conformity. Such declarations of conformity can also make reference to the results of assessments by one or more first, second or third parties. Such references are not to be interpreted as reducing the responsibility of the supplier in any way. These general requirements are applicable to all sectors. These requirements might need to be supplemented for specific purposes, for example for use in connection with regulations. Information specified in the second part of the standard which shall be maintained as a document and made available upon request forms the basis of attestation of conformity according to this part of DIN EN ISO/IEC 17050. A reference is made to this supporting documentation, if desired or required. This new version of the standard contains the German translation of the International Standard ISO/IEC 17050-1:2004-10; it is the corrected version of 2007-06-15 which has been adopted under a Unique Acceptance Procedure by CEN and CENELEC as a European Standard EN ISO/IEC 17050-1. The responsible German Committee is Working Committee NA 147-00-03 AA "Zertifizierungsgrundlagen (Grundlagen zur Konformitätsbewertung)" ("Basic principles for certification (Basic principles for conformity assessment)") of NQSZ.
