DIN EN 9100
Quality Management Systems - Requirements for Aviation, Space and Defense Organizations; German and English version EN 9100:2009

Title (German)

Qualitätsmanagementsysteme - Anforderungen an Organisationen der Luftfahrt, Raumfahrt und Verteidigung; Deutsche und Englische Fassung EN 9100:2009

Overview

The standard DIN EN 9100 includes ISO 9001:2008 quality management system requirements and specifies additional aviation, space and defence industry requirements, definitions and notes. These additions are shown in bold, italic text. It promotes the introduction of a process approach when developing, implementing and improving the effectiveness of a quality management system, to enhance customer satisfaction by meeting customer requirements. The previous edition has been revised to incorporate the requirements of ISO 9001:2008. In addition, industry requirements, definitions and notes have been revised and additional requirements have been included in response to stakeholder needs. This document standardizes quality management system requirements to the greatest extent possible and can be used at all levels of the supply chain by organizations around the world. The use of this document should result in improved quality, schedule and cost performance by the reduction or elimination of organization-unique requirements and wider application of good practice. While the standard was primarily developed for the aviation, space and defense industry, it can also be used in other industry sectors where a quality management system with additional requirements over an ISO 9001 system is needed. It specifies the requirements for a quality management system for the aviation, space and defense industry where an organization a) needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and b) aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. It is emphasized that the requirements given in this standard are complementary (not alternative) to contractual and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. Industry has established the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG), with representatives from companies in the Americas, Asia/Pacific and Europe, to implement initiatives that make significant improvements in quality and reductions in cost throughout the value stream. This standard has been prepared by the IAQG. This standard EN 9100 has been prepared by ASD-STAN, Technical Section Quality, for the IAQG sector Europe. The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) declared the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD-STAN) responsible for the preparation of European standards (EN) for the field of aerospace. The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 131-05-01 AA "Grundlagen der Managementverfahren" ("Basic principles of management processes") of the Aerospace Standards Committee at DIN. According to Resolution 57/9 of Technical Committee of the advisory board of the Aerospace Standards Committee (NL) at DIN, the German Institute for Standardization, the European space industry standardization results shall be adopted into the German body of standards in both languages, German and English. Therefore, the English version is added to this German version of the EN standard.
