DIN Standards Committee Information Technology and IT Applications

Overview

DIN 66277 specifies how an identification plate with an RF tag and a 2D barcode, if applicable, shall be supplemented and how the data shall be structured. The manufacturer or service person designates the object with an identification plate with identifying, describing or classifying data necessary for assignment of the object to an order, the use of the object or its service. Identification plates are often necessary to comply with legal regulations or rules of a sector. As a rule, the manufacturer, type designation of the object and the most important technical data are printed on an identification plate. The data of an object can be saved in an electronic data memory of an RFID tag. In this process this tag is accessed via radio using a writer/reader. The data content can additionally be stored on a 2D code which is read by an optical scanner. DIN 66277 describes the mechanical design of the tags on the identification plate, the wireless communication with the writer/reader, the structure of the data stored on the tag and the communication with the higher-level data processing systems. DIN 66277 does not specify the components on the identification plate that are readable by humans.
