Glass in building - Design and construction rules - Part 4: Additional requirements for barrier glazing

Abstract

This document is applicable to vertical glazing and horizontal glazing inclined to the attack side with a fall arrest function, i.e. serving as a perimeter. It is applicable to the following categories of glazing: - Category A: Glazings according to DIN18008-2 and DIN18008-3 that must support horizontal live loads and correspond to one of the following groups: - A1: glazing element supported on at least three edges in a linear manner or by means of plate holders or combined in a linear manner and with plate holders, which does not correspond to A2 or A3 - A2: glass element clamped at the lower edge by means of clamps or plate holders - A3: glass element mounted on two opposite edges in a linear manner or by means of countersunk head holders or by means of edge clamp holders. - Category B: Glazing in accordance with DIN18008-2 and DIN18008-3 that must indirectly support horizontal live loads. The individual panes are connected by a continuous handrail at the required height. The handrail can be fixed on the upper edge of the pane or by plate holders or countersunk head holders according to DIN18008-3. - Category C: Glazing in accordance with DIN18008-2 and DIN18008-3 that does not have to support horizontal live loads at the required height. The glazing is only a filling element, the handrail is connected to the adjacent building structure (steel posts, concrete wall). Glazing shall conform to one of the following groups: - C1: Railing infill panels; - C2: Glazing below a load-bearing transom located at a required height; - C3: Glazing with a load-bearing transom placed in front at the required height.
