Overview
This part of ISO 8130 specifies a method for the determination of the time for a thermosetting coating powder to gel at a specified temperature, normally 180 °C. The determination of the gel time is a very simple method for the characterization and quality control of coating powders. However, the gel time determined by this method is not directly related to the time for a coating powder to cure in practical applications. The method is not applicable to coating powders with ultra-short gel-times of less than 15 s. The Committee responsible for this standard is NA 002-00-07 AA "Allgemeine Prüfverfahren für Beschichtungsstoffe und Beschichtungen" ("General test methods for coating materials and coatings") at DIN.
