Overview
This part of IEC 60855 is applicable to insulating foam-filled tubes and solid rods, of a circular cross-section, made of synthetic materials with reinforced fibreglass and intended to be used in the manufacture and construction of tools, devices and equipment for carrying out live working on electrical systems operating at voltages above 1 kV. Foam-filled tubes and solid rods of cross-section other than circular and/or made with material other than synthetic materials with reinforced fibreglass are not covered by this part of IEC 60855. This edition includes the following important technical changes compared to the previous edition: - reintroduction of certain diameters with their tolerances of foam-filled pipes and solid rods with circular cross-section; - reintroduction of dielectric tests before and after moisture storage, as previously part of IEC 60855-1: 2009; - specification of an alternative test (after water storage) in the case of foam-filled pipes and solid rods after their manufacturing process; - revision of the maximum values specified for phase angles; - revision of the rain test and improvement of the associated test set-up. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 214.4 "Ausrüstung und Geräte zum Arbeiten unter Spannung; Prüfgeräte, Isolierstangen und Vorrichtungen zum Erden und Kurzschließen" ("Equipment and devices for live working; test apparatus, insulating rods and devices for grounding and short circuiting") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
