Overview
This International Standard consists of five parts and specifies the information required to build interoperable, networked platforms and devices for the digital home in the field of audio, video and multi-media systems, including interoperable components for device and software infrastructures, physical media, network transfers, device identification and control, media management and control, media formats and media transfer protocols. This part of IEC 62481 provides vendors with the information needed to build interoperable networked platforms and devices for the digital home. The necessary standards and technologies are now available to enable products to be built for networked entertainment centric usages. However, standards and technologies shall be clarified to ensure maximum interoperability. The five parts of this standard fulfil this requirement. The responsible body is DKE/K 742 "Audio-, Video- und Multimediasysteme" ("Audio, video and multimedia systems") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
