Terry Hill new President of ISO

(2013-01-21)  On 1 January 2013 Terry Hill has taken office as ISO President for a two-year term. British and a civil engineer, Terry has global experience creating and implementing infrastructure and transport projects that bring benefit to communities all around the world. Between 2004 and 2009 he was Chairman of Arup Group, an 11,000 staff independent firm of engineers, planners and technology consultants, and is now Chairman of its owning Trusts. He previously led its Infrastructure Division, where his role centred on consulting, infrastructure and managing major projects. Terry holds degrees in civil and structural engineering, and economics. He is a non-executive member of the Crossrail Ltd Board and a fellow or member of many professional associations including the UK Royal Academy of Engineering, the Institution of Civil Engineers and the World Economic Forum. He is married with three sons. More

(2013-01-14)  After a three-year development phase DIN SPEC 31060 "Ropes courses - Qualification of personnel with safety-related activities in ropes courses" has now been published. This specification lays down requirements for qualifying and facilitators working in permanent and stationary ropes courses. It focuses on risk management and on the prerequisites, training and tasks of ropes course staff such as facilitators, rescue technicians, and course inspectors. The qualification of trainers is also the subject of this document. The specification concludes with an overview of various ropes course designs with the related implications for risk management. DIN SPEC 31060 is intended for rope course operators as a guide to training personnel and ensuring safety on the course.
