CEN and CENELEC would like to extend their warmest congratulations on your election as President of the European Commission and to express their best wishes for a successful mandate.

As two of the officially recognised European Standardization Organisations, CEN (European Committee on Standardization) and CENELEC (European Committee on Electrotechnical Standardization), established as private bodies and supporting European policies and legislation, make European harmonisation happen in the Single Market and contribute to the competitiveness of the European Industry in the Global Market. Our voluntary and inclusive European standardization system is a powerful tool and through our public-private partnership with the European Commission we strengthen European values and assets for people, services and goods.

We followed with great interest your exchange with the European Parliament. CEN and CENELEC welcome your agenda for Europe: the six priorities you have identified as the basis for your mandate are very close to our heart, as you can read in our enclosed Declaration. CEN and CENELEC look forward to playing an integral role in making Europe better, smarter and more resilient.

We believe that, with your appointment, we are given a historic opportunity to be ambitious and relaunch the European project. CEN, CENELEC and their network of 34 national members are committed to work together with you and the next European Commission to successfully establish a “Europe that strives for more” and use the power of our European standardization model to the full benefit of all European businesses and citizens!

We look forward to our next five years of cooperation and would be very happy to meet you, once you take office, in order to discuss more in depth on how we can work together.

We wish you the best success and assure you of our highest consideration,

Vincent Laflèche (President, CEN), Elena Santiago Cid (Director General, CEN and CENELEC) & Dany Sturtewagen (President, CENELEC)
