Consumer Council of DIN (VR)

The Consumer Council of DIN ensures that consumer interests are taken into consideration in the development of consumer-relevant standards.

The Consumer Council of DIN (VR), founded in 1974 as a permanent committee of the DIN Presidial Board, represents consumers' interests in standards work at DIN and has its business office at DIN.

The Council comprises five members named by the DIN President in consultation with the Federation of German Consumer Organisations (vzbv) and the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV). The Council members work on an honorary and independent basis and set down guidelines for consumer policy issues in standards work.

At present a staff of about 60 volunteers supports the Council's work by working on specific projects and representing the Council in national, European and international standardization bodies.

The majority of staff members are selected by the Federation of German Consumer Organisations, the associated Consumer Centres, or the well-known German consumer institute "Stiftung Warentest". Experts from universities, test institutes and other organizations are also active for the Council.
