DIN-TERM online

Standardized terms and their translations - how to translate the French term "grisou" into English, and how to say "whip hose" in German.

Search DIN's trilingual termbase DIN-TERM for German, French or English terms in order to find their standardized translations. Select the  language you wish to translate from and to and, where appropriate, a specialist field (category). DIN-TERM covers the terminology of all standards committees of DIN.

The database is trilingual: The terminologies used in European and International standardization have been adopted in the DIN standards and are therefore usually available with identical contents in English and French, too. Thus, the total terminological stock of the standards, specifications and draft standards published by DIN as well as their European and international reference documents is documented and searchable.

The existing stock is continuously updated, i.e. new terminological specifications are included in the database, and terminology from withdrawn documents is marked accordingly. The database currently contains about 600.000 concepts from valid and withdrawn standards, draft standards and specifications, around 170.000 of which stem from currently valid standards. Only the latter constitute the basis for the term search tool presented here.

Do you want to see more than just the standardized terms from valid standards and their standardized translations? Are you also interested in their definitions, in notes, examples and maybe even in terminological specifications from draft standards or from withdrawn documents? If so you are also welcome to register for our DIN-TERMinology Portal. Registration and usage are free of charge!
